You know the feeling: the butterflies, the flicker of anxiety, the quiet sense that something's wrong or needs to change. That's a gut feeling, and it's the story behind the name of this site.
Why the name
A gut feeling is often what brings someone to see a nutritionist. Maybe your energy is low and you can't quite put your finger on why. Maybe your blood work is fine, but clinically there might be underlying lifestyle factors that need to change. Something just feels off.
The name also works on a second level. There's a direct relationship between your gut and your overall health, as I wrote about in Why Gut Health Matters More Than You Think.
What the logo means
The logo is a depiction of the gut, the small intestine looping and interlinking. I love that it also looks like two hands reaching for each other, supporting one another.
Some people might see a brain, or a tangle of confusion, and honestly, I love that too. On social media there are so many rabbit holes and so much conflicting advice about what to eat and what to avoid. Nutrition can be complicated, and sometimes controversial. You need someone trusted, like a registered nutritionist or dietitian, to untangle that ball of intertwined thoughts and straighten it out into a clear line. Not by dumbing it down, but by making it make sense.
The magic is in the basics
A huge part of why I started A Gut Feeling is that so many people come to me asking about specific things and lose track of the whole picture. And I can't highlight this enough: there is so much wisdom, depth and magic in the basics of nutrition.
You don't need to focus on superfoods, the latest diet, or rules like eat this hot, eat that cold, don't eat it at this time. That's all ridiculous, and it just creates more stress, which links straight back to the gut. Just chill out, focus on the basics, and let registered nutritionists and dietitians do the thinking for you and point you where you need to go.
Where this fits in my journey
A Gut Feeling marks my move from public health, as a registered nutritionist, into private consults. Here's what you'll find here:
- Register your interest for a consult with me
- Blog posts with a nutritionist's view of where the current science sits
- Your questions. Type in a question or email me, and I'd love to answer it and maybe write a blog post about it
